That’s cool but what to do and not to do once you have it done…
I have tried to list few things below so please read and comment at the end of this article…
What to Do:
- Leave the tattoo bandaged for a minimum of 3 hours and no longer than 12 hours.
- Remove bandage under warm running water. If bandage is stuck to the tattoo, gently remove it while under running water, therefore reducing the risk of damaging the tattoo.
- Once bandage is removed, using an unscented soap, wash the tattoo off well with your hand and warm soapy water.
- When done washing the tattoo off, gently pat the tattoo dry with a clean towel and allow the tattoo to air dry for about 5-10 minutes.
- Apply Curel (Ultra healing/Fragrance free) dry skin lotion to the tattoo 4-6 times a day.
- The hand lotion can be applied to the tattoo about 3-4 times daily for about 10-14 days or until the tattoo is completely done peeling.
- Somewhere between 3 and 6 days, the tattoo will start to flake off like tissue paper. Do not pick at or scratch. Let the skin peel naturally. You will notice small pieces of dry skin containing color coming off while using the lotion or washing the tattoo. This is normal- it is just a top layer of dead skin coming off. Your tattoo is not disappearing.
What NOT to Do:
- Once bandage is completely removed DO NOT rebandage the tattoo.
- NO direct sunlight on tattoo for first 2-3 weeks.
- DO NOT pick or scratch tattoo while it is peeling.
- DO NOT soak the tattoo for 2 weeks. No swimming, baths, hot tubs or saunas for 2 weeks. When tattoo has completely peeled, swimming or soaking is OK.
- No shaving or waxing area until tattoo is completely healed.
- DO NOT apply alcohol, Vaseline petroleum jelly or sunblock to fresh tattoo.
- DO NOT listen to friends or so-called tattoo experts. If you have questions, call or visit the artist that did your tattoo!
Some extra stuff:
- Once you leave the shop, proper care of your tattoo is your responsibility.
- Small amounts of color may appear on clothing or sheets for first few days.
- When tattoo is peeling, color will appear in pieces of dry skin.
- If the tattoo is in an area where it can be exposed to the air, allow it to breathe. Allowing the tattoo to breathe will help the healing. Your body and oxygen are going to heal the tattoo.
- If possible, wear loose fitting clothing over tattoo and be careful not to suffocate tattoo with socks or pantyhose.
And please DO NOT ignoring your tattooist listen what he/she has to say they are there to help.

1. Is it ok to have a tattoo on a neck.
2. After the Tattoo can i go to GYM & do my regular excercise. If not, for how many days do i have to stop my workout.
3. For how many days do the Tattoo should be protected from water.
4. I have to wear my officical uniform with from monday to friday which carries tie as well. does it make any impact on Tattoo.
5. Any suggestion from your side to get the tattoo on neck.
Thanks
Hi Harmaninder,
Do you have any other tattoos? Usually neck tats come after full sleeves, back pieces and such. Its the most visible area and it takes different kinda commitment to have something that visible…
very good suggestions i’ll try to do it
I’d love to read more about this
Great post i like tribal tattoo designs, but thinking of getting some more tattoos on my back
why on the neck? if you don’t have any other tattoos I wouldn’t reccommend it as your first one! it’s very visable and I would think about it first as it’s a huge commitment! I just had my second tattoo done at the top of my back going accross part of my neck which the pain was ok but if i had that done first it would’ve put me off having any others – i had my arm done first.
Pretty good post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed reading your blog posts. Any way I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you post again soon.
HI. great post i have about 12 tattoos all over and what you have said i have done for all of them except for the sun that is something idid not know cheers thanks heaps
I am plannin to get my first tatto on my foot in April. I have to wear shoes to work obviously and tattoos must be covered…can’t wear sandals or flip flops….any suggestions? This will be my first and probably only tattoo, I wanna do it right!
i would say wait on your foot tattoo till you have time to let it heal properly i have a tattoo on my foot and know sveral others as well it is a very sensative spot and wearing shoes and especialls sock does not help the socks like to stick to the area if you read what the say above about the bandage sticking same concept with socks hope all goes well fawnix
got a question…I got this stuff called “AFTER INKED” I don’t know if it’s this stuff or just me, but my tattoo is healing super fast…it’s my first, and it’s a good size(across back) but compaired to my friends, mine is healing 4X faster than theirs…didn’t know if you knew anything about this stuff, but for me, It’s working great
Hey i’ve recently got a new tat, i already have others, but i’ve been putting vaseline on it.. i just read this and it says not to put vaseline on it? Does that mean i’ve damaged it or what affect will it have now? Thanks!

Harmaninder …..i have done plenty of neck work on ppl and apparently it hurts like a mf!! also…have u ever noticed how little kids stare at handicapped or ppl in wheelchairs?? well if u dont mind that id just jump right in and get your neck done!!!unfortunantly it can make u unemployable, even in this day and age,the difference between someone with a tattoo and someone without? the people with tattoos couldnt give a shit if u have them or not! caution, think real hard dude.
hey mike and guys, was just wondering why no vaseline petroleum jelly.thnx Pete

hey,
i plan on getting a tattoo in a few days and I have some questions.
I had planned on getting my tattoo on the side of my calf but then I read that tattoos that are visible can lead to workplace discrimination. And also would it be smart to get my first tattoo on my foot????
Is hydrogen peroxide bad for tats? Mine is on my inner left ankle n it is still really red n it was done almost a week ago n it still hurts I think it may be infected..
