Hi-
I've followed all my artists instructions on after care but without fail I always need a touchup on color or shading work.
I tend to scab up after about a day and the scab is thick enough to take color when it comes off.
I'm not sure if this is normal? Another chap I spoke to said the color was being applied too heavy but I'm no expert so am unsure.
I don't drink or take any blood thinning drugs before getting done but still end up bleeding (plasmaring!) like a stuck pig!
These guys use the 'cling wrap' method of care and I usually take it off to have blood running down my arm even after the amount of time I'm told to leave it on!

Thanks for the reminders. I always used Aquaphor healing ointment. My latest tatt took only about 2 1/2 weeks to heal and it is half sleeve in size. I was sore for about 2 days and the healing began. Definitely wash and rinse with an anti-bacterial soap (gently rub with your hand/fingers. No bath poofs or wash cloths), pat dry, and let the tatt breathe for awhile before you apply the ointment. Do these things 4 - 5 times a day.

All of the Do's and Don't tips here are spot on, stick to them and you will have a great looking tattoo....The only thing i do different is use Bepanthen as my aftercare lotion...Bepanthen is a nappy rash ointment which is antibacterial and breathable. This is widely used in the UK for tattoo aftercare. I have 5 tattoo's, 2 small and 3 large and have ended up with great results on all of them....Once healed, look after your tattoo, especially dont let them get ruined by too much sun!

I have 8 tattoos and all of them I can cover from the cross on my right calf to my whole side piece. I layed on my side for 2 hours for that. 1 1/2 for my cross on my calf. Work isn't that bad due to the fact of wearing jeans. Some jobs are different then others. Id ask a boss or manager about tattoos being visible at work. My boss doesn't care. He said its a way of showing who you are.

Hey Mike, Just had another Tatt done On Saturday and every thing you just mentioned, my Artist all ready had me filled in. I'm good to go but It's good that you post these hints for people who don't know what to do for after care. Good job!

hey peter in the outback. this is something beautiful, hopefully, you will have for life. i dont think id risk it to someone promising but hesitant. save yourself grief save up for a roadtrip, flight, whatever, and head to airlie beach queensland. huge tatt shop owned by arron right on the foreshore. i know people that come to airlie just to have a tatt done. bonus holiday in a tropical paradise :) had both mine done there ( i live 2500kms south in adelaide)worth the journey alone! mine healed without ANY scarring, peeling or flaking following the good advice above, and the use of bepanthen cream that they advise. available over counter in any aussie chemist. active ingredient is benzalkonium chloride, antiseptic cream. this is the best advice i can offer. thankx to arron and 'the mad monk'for an amazing piece of art work that healed in days not weeks. these guys are the best :)

vaseline cloggs your poors up and your tattoo can not breathe... artists use it while tattooing so they have a nice surface for the hand to slide on.
